TSV to XML Converter — Free Online TSV→XML Tool

Paste any TSV (tab-separated values) and get a structured XML document in seconds. Runs 100% in your browser with the open-source PapaParse and fast-xml-parser libraries (MIT) — no upload, no sign-up. The first row becomes element names by default, numbers and booleans are auto-detected, quoted fields and empty lines are handled. Perfect for converting spreadsheet data to XML for legacy systems, SOAP web services, RSS feeds or Word document templates — private, free, instant.

How to use

  1. Copy data directly from Excel or any spreadsheet app and paste it into the left box.
  2. Keep "header row" checked if the first line is column names; uncheck it otherwise.
  3. The right side updates live as you type (debounced ~250 ms).
  4. Use Copy XML to copy the result to your clipboard, or Download .xml to save it locally.

What is it

TSV (tab-separated values) is similar to CSV but uses tabs instead of commas as field separators. The advantage is that fields do not need to escape commas, making it ideal for copy-pasting data from Excel or spreadsheet apps. This tool parses your TSV with PapaParse using a tab delimiter, treats the first row as element names, and builds a nicely indented XML document using fast-xml-parser.

Notes & fun facts

TSV is an overlooked but extremely practical data format. It is almost identical to CSV but uses tabs instead of commas. This seemingly tiny difference brings a huge benefit: you do not need to escape commas, quotes or newlines inside fields, because tabs rarely appear in human-typed text. This makes TSV the natural format when copy-pasting data from Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers. When you need to feed spreadsheet data into a legacy system that only accepts XML, a SOAP web service, an RSS feed or a Word document template, TSV to XML is the fastest path: paste data, auto-generate a root rows element, each row becomes a row element, and the header becomes child element names — ready to copy and use.

Origin & history

TSV has a history as long as CSV, but without an official RFC like RFC 4180, it is more of a de facto standard. PapaParse is an MIT-licensed CSV/TSV parser open-sourced in 2013. fast-xml-parser is an MIT-licensed XML parser/builder open-sourced in 2017, zero-dependency and browser-friendly.
