What is it
Greek numerals use Greek letters as digits: α-θ = 1–9, ι-ϙ = 10–90, ρ-ϡ = 100–900, with ͵ for thousands and ʹ as the unit marker.
Notes & fun facts
Used by ancient Greek mathematicians and engraved on coins and monuments, Greek numerals remain a fascinating bridge between letters and mathematics.
Origin & history
Ancient Greece used two numeral systems: the Attic (Athenian) system with dedicated stroke symbols for place values, and the Ionic (Milesian) alphabetic system, in which Greek letters stood for 1–9, 10–90 and 100–900. The alphabetic system became the more widespread one, used for counting, accounting and dating — and it is the system this tool implements.
