What is it
Every day money moves — in or out. A simple local ledger captures each move and keeps your income, spending and balance in one glance.
Notes & fun facts
A ledger is a mirror for money: writing down each small move makes where it went visible — and that clarity alone usually changes how you spend.
Origin & history
Bookkeeping is nearly as old as writing itself: ancient civilizations recorded grain and livestock transactions on clay tablets and papyrus. In 1494, the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli published his Summa de arithmetica, which systematically described double-entry bookkeeping and laid the foundation of modern accounting. This method — every debit has an equal credit — spread around the world and remains the bedrock of accounting today.
