What is it
Sorting text means rearranging its characters into a new order. This tool works character by character: type any text, choose ascending or descending alphabetical order — or shuffle it at random — and the tool rebuilds your text in that order. Ignore case treats A and a as the same letter; dedupe keeps only the first occurrence of each character.
Notes & fun facts
Long lists are hard to scan, but sorted lists almost read themselves. Students alphabetize vocabulary, writers tidy name lists, and developers sort lines of output before sharing. A text sorter turns jumbled input into order in a single click.
Origin & history
Sorting machines are far older than computers — 19th-century census bureaus used mechanical card sorters, and telephone books have been alphabetized for over a century. The character-level sort we use today follows the same alphabet order you learned in school.
