Space Normalizer
Collapse multiple spaces inside text into exactly N spaces (default 1), and control how many spaces to keep at the start and end — default trims them to zero.
What is it
Copied text from PDFs, websites or chat windows often comes with double spaces, stray tabs or uneven padding. This tool squeezes every run of internal spaces into exactly the width you choose (default one), and lets you keep or strip the spaces at the very start and end of the whole text.
Notes & fun facts
Word processors used to recommend two spaces after a period — inherited from the typewriter era when monospaced type needed the extra room. Modern fonts are proportional, so one space is not just enough, it is the typographic standard. This tool does in one click what used to take a find-and-replace.
Origin & history
Typesetting with movable type in the 1500s already cared about consistent spacing. The two-spaces-after-a-full-stop rule comes from manual typewriters of the 19th century; the rise of desktop publishing and proportional fonts in the 1980s flipped the convention back to one.
